Working in Childcare:

Working in Childcare: Insights from Our Founder, Monika

As the founder of The Foremost Nanny Agency, and someone who has spent years working as a nanny and maternity nurse myself, I can say that working in childcare is one of the most rewarding professions out there. The joy that comes from knowing you’re contributing to a child’s growth and well-being is truly fulfilling. The relationships I’ve formed with the children and families I’ve cared for have been some of the most enriching parts of my life. These bonds often go beyond professional connections—they become meaningful, long-lasting relationships that I treasure.

One of the things I love most about this work is that no two days are the same. Every day brings a new experience, whether it’s helping a child reach a developmental milestone or supporting a family through the early stages of parenthood. The variety keeps the job dynamic and exciting, and it’s this unpredictability that makes childcare such an engaging field to work in.

However, the job comes with its challenges. Childcare can be physically and emotionally demanding, with long, irregular hours that require constant readiness. As a nanny and maternity nurse, I had to always be prepared for any situation that could arise, which can be exhausting at times. Forming close bonds with the children and families I cared for also made it hard to say goodbye when my time with them came to an end, creating an emotional strain that caregivers often experience.

One of the most important lessons I’ve learned in this field is the value of setting clear boundaries from the outset. Boundaries help maintain a healthy, professional relationship and ensure that both the caregiver and the family are aligned in their expectations. Open and honest communication is key to this, and I always encourage nannies to have transparent conversations with their employers. If ever a situation feels uncomfortable, that’s where The Foremost Nanny Agencysteps in—we’re here to facilitate these discussions and ensure a smooth, respectful working relationship for both parties.

At the end of the day, working in childcare is a deeply rewarding yet demanding profession. But with empathy, professionalism, and the right support, nannies and maternity nurses can make a lasting, positive impact on the families they serve—something I’m incredibly proud to have done, and now support others in doing through our agency.

Warm regards,
Monika, Founder of The Foremost Nanny Agency
